We have listed a number of hutch manufacturers which either we, or our bunny adopters, have found to be very reliable companies offering a good service and producing quality hutches.  Similarly, if we hear of companies offering an exceptionally poor service (or no service at all!) then we will also include their details here.   

Please note: these are our personal recommendations (or otherwise!) based upon either our own personal experiences or those of our bunny owning friends and bunny adopters.

Custom-made plastic hutches:  Plastic (polyethylene) hutches are made by www.evalastfencing.co.uk in lengths up to 6' with increased headroom making them suitable for large-breed bunnies, such as French Lops.  The product range is being extended and expanded so, if you don't see what you're looking for - just ask (mentioning Ross Rabbits as the source of your enquiry).

We obtained one of these hutches in February 2003 - the 6' long version which, at 28" deep internally, offers extremely generous living proportions initially for our French Lop, Wellington although he has since offered it to our British Giant, Imogen.  She loves it - it offers her ample space to hop around and stretch out while the enclosed area houses her litter tray.  The front door opens so that she can hop in/out during the daytime and she's a very happy big bunny!

I found it extremely easy to assemble, single-handedly in just under an hour using a power screwdriver.  All holes are pre-drilled, ample screws are supplied (2 duplicate sets were sent with my order - but I'm not sure if this is standard practice!) and the instructions are so simple that even I could follow them.

Overall, we are very impressed both by the service from Evalast (who even advised the delivery date 3 days in advance) and the hutch itself.  It is very sturdy, spacious, simple to clean, built to last and very practical and functional.  

We are delighted with this hutch and would highly recommend the 6' Evalast hutches for all outdoor bunnies.    

I wish I'd ordered one sooner.  So does Wellington!

This most attractive, substantial and superbly-designed two-storey 5' hutch was made by  www.gardenpine.com - and is very highly recommended.  

There are shutters to both open panels for use in exceptionally cold, windy or wet weather so it's an excellent year-round hutch and one of the most attractive hutches we've seen.   

We are advised that delivery is very prompt, the hutch is very easy to assemble and the overall service offered by www.gardenpine.com  is nothing short of excellent.

The above 'Skeffington' hutch is occupied by 2 very lucky, and very happy, mini lops.

www.happyhutch.com and www.happyhutch.co.uk  The Happy Hutch Company has extended its range to include the 'Big House Hutch' -  a 6' long, 3' deep and 2' high spacious hutch of suitable dimensions for French Lops,  with the 2' height offering adequate height for rabbits to stand up.  They also manufacture a 6' x 2' x 2' hutches along with a further wide selection of hutches and runs.  All have practical designs and we're told delivery is prompt and the standard of construction is very good. Please quote 'Ross Rabbits' when you make any enquiries. 

Here's an example (above right)  of a 6' x 3' x 18" 2-storey hutch manufactured by the Happy Hutch Company.  The purchasers were delighted with it and again, praised the company for its standards and free delivery.  Therefore, we feel we can recommend the company with confidence.  The following hutch houses 2 mini lop X bunnies and offers ample space for them to stretch out and run around.

Many adopters have ordered hutches from this company and been very happy with both the hutches and service received.  There was one (isolated) exception in 2003 - but this was very quickly resolved to everyone's satisfaction.  We feel all bunny owners can buy with complete confidence and we would happily buy from this company ourselves.

http://www.midlandhutches.co.uk/   Midland Hutches manufactures a superb range of hutches for French Lop and Giant bunnies with ideal dimensions of 6' long, 4' deep and 3' height - perfect!  These hutches will offer ample space for a bonded pair.  So far, these are the largest hutches we've found and, although we haven't actually used them ourselves, they do look very good indeed and, with these generous dimensions, cannot be overlooked.  The standard hutch can also be made in even larger sizes to suit a group of Frenchies or Giants - or to offer a couple even more space.  We challenge you to find a larger hutch!  If you order a hutch from this company, please let us have your feedback so that we can recommend the hutches to other large-bunny owners.  Please quote 'Ross Rabbits' when you make any enquiries

This  hutch is over 6' long  and was manufactured in Ledbury, Herefordshire by www.birdtable.co.uk.  Although the company specialises in making bird-tables, they also undertake special commissions which can include rabbit hutches made to your own specification or similar to this one.  For French Lops, we recommend a hutch of 6' long, 3' deep and 2' tall.  Please quote 'Ross Rabbits' when you make any enquiries. 

http://www.forshamcottagearks.co.uk  These are high quality hutches with a very rustic appearance - and we can recommend these with confidence.  'Proper' sized hutches with 24" headroom and 20" depth.  6' hutches available for larger breeds and non-agoraphobic smaller breeds!  Online price list available which includes VAT and delivery charges.  The 6' Proper Hutch illustrated is currently £168 including delivery and would suit 2 mini lops.  It would also be suitable for 1 French Lop (but we NEVER advise keeping any outdoor bunny alone - all outdoor rabbits need a companion).  It could be used by two French Lops in conjunction with a large run.  Please quote 'Ross Rabbits' when you make any enquiries  

http://www.langhalegardens.co.uk/shop/shed%20index.htm - a good range of 'proper' sized hutches made by Forsham Arks.  24" headroom and 20" depth.  These are strongly constructed from tongue & groove timber and highly recommended.  National delivery is available.  

We have previously ordered from Langhale Gardens and found the service to be excellent so can highly recommend this company.

www.mrbuns.co.uk 'Mr Bun' makes a basic 6' x 2' x 2' outdoor hutch which would probably be suitable for a French Lop.  From the photograph, we couldn't determine the thickness of the plywood(?) used.  If ordering, please ensure it is at least 1/2" and, ideally, with a floor of 3/4" - 1" thick to ensure it will withstand the weight of its occupants!  Please quote 'Ross Rabbits' when you make any enquiries

http://www.rehutches.com - Ryedale Pet Homes manufacture hutches up to 5' wide and 3'10" deep suitable for pairs of smaller breeds such as mini lops and dwarf lops.  Delivery is available to most areas of the UK.

www.pethouse.co.uk  can produce larger hutches to order.  We recommend a 6' x 2' (or, better still, 6' x 3') for a pair of French Lops or Giants.  We haven't any feedback from this company yet so if you place an order, please let us have your feedback so that we can recommend the hutches to other large-bunny owners.

http://www.omlet.co.uk/products_services/products_services.php?view=Rabbits - this looks a novel idea although we feel the enclosed area appears rather cramped at  70 x 70cm maximum for even a single small-breed bunny (not that we would ever recommend keeping bunnies outdoors without a bunny-companion) and there is no obvious place for the litter tray.  However, we like the idea of the water bottle being stored internally to help prevent the growth of algae (but all bottles should be cleaned regularly and water replaced daily!).  If you used one of these, please place the run section on chicken wire or your bunnies could dig their way out very quickly.  We understand Omlet are proposing to introduce such a base soon.....

We haven't used these ourselves or seen them in use but we are always on the lookout for new ideas.  If you have experience of them, please share your views and experience with us.
